Indonesian Government Witnesses Say Tobacco Not Addictive

Indonesian Government Witnesses Say Tobacco Not Addictive

I am pretty sure we will never see a headline, never mind a story like this one in America.

The debate centers on an article in the 2009 Health Law that lists tobacco as an addictive substance.

Hearings in the review so far have produced some jaw-dropping testimonies from witnesses for the applicant, including theories that smoking does not cause lung cancer and can actually be healthy.

But most telling of all the statements is this one

Indonesia is the only country in the Asia-Pacific region that has not ratified the World Health Organization’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.
And even in a country that won't ratify this document

The government’s stance on the issue can also be seen in the highest institution in the land: the State Palace.

Under to a 2010 gubernatorial decree, smoking is forbidden in all buildings in Jakarta. Yet smoking remains allowed in the palace’s media room, which is air-conditioned, no less.

If the money attached to lobbying against this on a global scale stops will that end the madness?

$200 Million In Lost Revenue

Illinois May End Casino Smoking Ban | News & Features | Cigar Aficionado

Imagine that number on a global scale.

Another state did Iowa. Iowa passed a smoking ban but expempted their casinos from it.

Surely there must be a reason why smoking bans harm governments, people and states.

Property Rights

If I pay taxes in a buisness that I own why does the state, the town, the county, the WHO, have the authority to tell me what I can and can't allow my patrons to do?

Sometimes people get fed up.

And other times the lies become clear.

When is enough enough?

How much money, power, control, jobs do the anti's have to wrest away from us before we become like this or like this?

New year wish - Tshering Tobgay’s Blog

New year wish - Tshering Tobgay’s Blog: "Bhutan"

What a strange law.

No idea how it could be enforced.

It's sad looking at this because if I read this right ,there is no question that this is a road that we will all be walking down eventually.

Albert Einstein said of prohibition

"The prestige of government has undoubtedly been lowered considerably by the prohibition law. For nothing is more destructive of respect for the government and the law of the land than passing laws which cannot be enforced. It is an open secret that the dangerous increase of crime in this country is closely connected with this."

People just forget history I guess.

Nick Gillespie On The Nanny State

Nick Gillespie On The Nanny State

A simple message, accept personal responsibility for the choices you make.

The government's job is not to be my parent,my priest,my friend or the one who enforces that my choices are limited.

An Update From Richard White

From Richard White ............................................
Hi guys,

I just got off the phone to Liz and her husband, unfortunately Philipina
moved out today but on the plus side the family are just settling her
into a new home where she's allowed to smoke, so all's well that ends
well i guess - better there than the nazis eh?

Anyway, regarding the plans to send her the e-cig, Liz was really
grateful for that and has provided me the new address, i'm sure you can
understand that i won't be printing it online because it's direct to her
apartment, so (Kate in particular!) if there are any updates or news
regarding getting her one, can the person contact me directly and i'll
sort the address out?

Liz was also grateful for the petition itself and found it bizarre that
the story was in papers in various provinces - so you can imagine the
reaction when i told her about all the blogs and multi-national
signatories! I'm still going to email the petition though, perhaps with
an extra note notifying them that we're aware of the move but we still
have a voice. They still need to be made aware that their actions aren't
tolerable, so i'll just email it over tomorrow (Michael, if you have any
more names since i emailed it to you please send it back and i'll add
them to the new ones i got). (Martin, as you asked earlier, i'm
currently at 80 names, not bad for 3 days i reckon)

Now, i've only emailed the 4 of you because the whole thing went so damn
out of control that i couldn't possibly email everyone who contacted me.
So if you could all do what you did before on blogs, groups, emails and
whatever magic you unleashed, but this time mentioning that it's now
closed and my inbox can stop being pounded hopefully.

If you do manage to do that, please put a huge thankyou from me, i
didn't expect it to get so much attention, there's still a lot of caring
people around and it should give us a lot more hope and determination
that our fight isn't a lost cause. And also tell everyone to give
themselves a pat on the back for the hard work, everyone pulled together
really well and although we didn't get her to keep her home, we still
united for a good cause so there's nothing to stop us going from
strength to strength from here.

Cheers everyone
Rich

Ranting About The Framework

YouTube - Legislation Against the Tobacco Industry

Depressing.
Makes me wonder when the WHO is finally going to be done.

Do they not see that the things they do affect everyone?
Farmers,elderly people,parents, children?

Every lie costs someone something, not tobacco control of course but it costs everyone else something.

Children are afraid their parents will die in agony and horrific pain, elderly people afraid they will be thrown out of their homes, farmers in the third world afraid they will no longer be able to make a living.

I wonder how many jobs have been lost since so many contries ratified the WHO's framework for Tobacco Control.

Not just jobs lost to smoking bans but jobs lost to the WHO Framework ,I bet the statistics on that would be amazing reading.
