WHO tells Spain first 6 months of new smoking law will be key

WHO tells Spain first 6 months of new smoking law will be key

Interesting reading about Spain.

What boggles the mind is the quote here

EFE quotes him saying, ‘It is just as important that people believe the law is being complied with, as is actual compliance’.

So what matters is not just that people toe the line but that everyone believes they are being made to do so.
Heaven knows the last thing anyone wants to see is smokers standing up and saying no or property owners standing up for themselves.

That might give people hope and we can't have that now can we?

And then there were none?

And then there were none? - Kuensel Online

There's a thought that must make tobacco control people happy as all get out.

Once you take the hard line approach and make all people criminals you won't see signs of the behavior you so abhor.

Don't call it a tobacco act, call it what it really is prison-like behavior enforcement.

There are authorised officers who’ll be empowered by the act to go ahead and question anyone, even those inside homes,” he said.
Sonam Tshering said this was just the beginning, and many programs, like coordination meeting and inspection in drayangs and discotheques, were in the pipeline.
“It started off well and we got the impression people are aware and taking it seriously,” he said. “We’re hopeful this will work.”

And on that happy note

Police raid homes to stub out smoking habit

Bhutan police can raid homes of smokers in a search for contraband tobacco and are training a special tobacco sniffer dog in a crackdown to honor a promise to become the world's first smoke-free nation.

The bad news just never ends.

Tobacco is a plant, not the cause of all the evil in the world.

I don't think I can rant anymore tonight,I just don't have it in me.

Smoking Is Not An Addiction ?

Radio Australia:Connect Asia:Story:Outrage over tobacco debate in Indonesian court

I really wish I enjoyed listening to this..

It would have been nice to hear some of the testimony itself, not just another anti puff piece.

If these tobacco witnesses are right about addiction then people aren't helpless slaves and smoking is a choice.

Which brings me to Leg Iron's Experiment.

If he makes it through this it won't prove much to anyone except me.

It would be nice to NOT be thought of as a helplessly addicted fool.

Wouldn't it be refreshing to be thought of as a person making an informed choice?

Smoking Is A Choice Not A Compulsion

I think other people might have the same idea.

Indonesian Government Witnesses Say Tobacco Not Addictive

Indonesian Government Witnesses Say Tobacco Not Addictive

I am pretty sure we will never see a headline, never mind a story like this one in America.

The debate centers on an article in the 2009 Health Law that lists tobacco as an addictive substance.

Hearings in the review so far have produced some jaw-dropping testimonies from witnesses for the applicant, including theories that smoking does not cause lung cancer and can actually be healthy.

But most telling of all the statements is this one

Indonesia is the only country in the Asia-Pacific region that has not ratified the World Health Organization’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.
And even in a country that won't ratify this document

The government’s stance on the issue can also be seen in the highest institution in the land: the State Palace.

Under to a 2010 gubernatorial decree, smoking is forbidden in all buildings in Jakarta. Yet smoking remains allowed in the palace’s media room, which is air-conditioned, no less.

If the money attached to lobbying against this on a global scale stops will that end the madness?

$200 Million In Lost Revenue

Illinois May End Casino Smoking Ban | News & Features | Cigar Aficionado

Imagine that number on a global scale.

Another state did Iowa. Iowa passed a smoking ban but expempted their casinos from it.

Surely there must be a reason why smoking bans harm governments, people and states.

Property Rights

If I pay taxes in a buisness that I own why does the state, the town, the county, the WHO, have the authority to tell me what I can and can't allow my patrons to do?

Sometimes people get fed up.

And other times the lies become clear.

When is enough enough?

How much money, power, control, jobs do the anti's have to wrest away from us before we become like this or like this?

New year wish - Tshering Tobgay’s Blog

New year wish - Tshering Tobgay’s Blog: "Bhutan"

What a strange law.

No idea how it could be enforced.

It's sad looking at this because if I read this right ,there is no question that this is a road that we will all be walking down eventually.

Albert Einstein said of prohibition

"The prestige of government has undoubtedly been lowered considerably by the prohibition law. For nothing is more destructive of respect for the government and the law of the land than passing laws which cannot be enforced. It is an open secret that the dangerous increase of crime in this country is closely connected with this."

People just forget history I guess.

Nick Gillespie On The Nanny State

Nick Gillespie On The Nanny State

A simple message, accept personal responsibility for the choices you make.

The government's job is not to be my parent,my priest,my friend or the one who enforces that my choices are limited.
