OK TO SMOKE: Plan to ban smoking rejected in Killingworth - The Middletown Press : Serving Middletown, CT

According to Iino, other towns that have implemented the “no smoking” ban have said that the residents of the town informs the smoker that the area they are smoking in is a “non smoking” area. Dudek shook his head repeatedly saying that adults smoking in the parks and at the fields are parents and grandparents.

“Is this going to be any different than them smoking in their homes, in front of their kids?” Dudek said. “What, are we going to police homes pretty soon too?”

How far is too far?
The slope is way too slippery now, small bans are what larger bans are built upon.

Gabler was distressed with the commission's solution to the smoking issue.

"This whole thing backfired on me," he said. "Now more people will smoke, with the butt cans out there."

I don't think he wanted to discuss smoking so much as fix his beach.
Too bad he was unhappy with it.

Back in 2004, Laguna Woods made it illegal to smoke in enclosed and unenclosed public areas.
Then in 2006, Laguna Woods made it illegal to smoke in shared carports, and entryways in multifamily residential buildings.
Then earlier this year, Laguna Woods made it illegal to smoke on ALL patios (open and enclosed) and balconies of PRIVATE residences.
Although Laguna Woods’ residents could still smoke on their enclosed patio, if all the windows and doors are closed.

Sometimes I just post stuff because it needs to be read.

The young, the old, the simple, the sophisticated, the modern and the old fashioned are all under its influence. The proposed ban bodes well for us. Nothing short of an outright prohibition of these products will be acceptable as the voices coming from every corner of the country are loud and clear.
From reading this gem I'm still more than a little unclear as to what about history exactly these people seem to have forgotten.
I think that the U.S. tried a little experiment in oh around 1920 and it stretched for 13 years.
With that great example behind it you would have thought people would have learned something from it.

The health risks of secondhand smoke have been a major motivation for smoking bans in workplaces and indoor public places, including restaurants, bars and night clubs, as well as some open public spaces. Overwhelming scientific evidence concludes that there is no safe level of exposure to secondhand smoke.
So let us strengthen our resolve and make it clear that we need a ban on all tobacco smokeless and smoking!! (CNS)

But apparently I'm wrong in thinking that people remember or learn anything from history.
